Obituary for Edward Claboine Jr.
Edward Claboine Jr., son of the late Edward and Ellen Claboine was born in Garysburg, North Carolina on June 17, 1941. He died in Rochester, New York in his long-time home on 144 Ellicott Street.
“Eddie Jr.”, “Po’Bill”, “ Fingers” and “Clay” (as he was affectionately called by many of his family and friends) attended primary school in Garysburg and, from there, relocated to Rochester. While here, he worked at St. John’s nursing home, Monroe Community College as a janitor, Eastman Kodak as a truck driver for 25 years, and at the Arc of Monroe as a driver for 20 years, where he helped clients with developmental and intellectual disabilities live more fully integrated lives. Edward was a strict disciplinarian and also know as the family field goal kicker. He was an exceptional bowler and his hobbies included fishing, cooking, gardening, watching the following TV entertainment: COPS, The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, and the Buffalo Bills. Some of his favorite foods were barbecue pig feet, oxtails, chitlins, headcheese, and baked turkey wings. He spent a lot of time with his friends playing cards and drinking a cold Bud Light. Eddie Jr. took pleasure in helping others as well as having pets (both cats and dogs). If you had the opportunity to spend significant time with him, you’d be sure to hear him say one of these phrases: “Case closed!”, “Good night!”, “I’m telling you!”. He often made the family laugh with his unique pronunciation of certain words such as Gatorade (Gata-ade), golf (gauff). He will be sorely missed.
Mr. Claboine is pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers– Walter Lee and Alexander Claboine; his sisters-Alice Phillips, Bessie Vinson and Paige Roberson. He is survived by his loyal and devoted wife – Pauline - of 57 years; his children, Edward Rodnell (Yuka) Claboine, Michael (Joy) Claboine, Laurie (Bernard) Holmes, Kenny Manley, Lisa Manley, Sondra (Jack) Morgan, Tiffany (Terrance) Green; his siblings: Maude Jacque, James (Shirley) Claboine, and Maxine Claboine, and a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews and other family members.
