Obituary for Dennis Drummond
Dennis L. Drummond was born August 28, 1944 to the late Mable Jackson and Homer Drummond in Bushwick, New York. Dennis attended Junior High School #57 where he flourished on the Track and Field Team. He was awarded many trophies and medals. Dennis attended and graduated from Eli Whitney High School, where his trophies are yet viewed and cherished. Dennis attended New York City Community College and majored in Business Administration.
Dennis worked as a security officer at a homeless shelter in Brooklyn, New York and later for New York Parks and Recreation. In his early adult years, Dennis was an entrepreneur. He used his business assets to assist in taking care of his family by acquiring brownstone homes in Bed-Stuy. He rented to individuals in the community and kept one which he later sold for profit. Dennis was very athletic and supported being fit and healthy. He always took family and friends to see and experience such sports as boxing, softball, track and football. He even coached his children’s softball team.
In 1987, he turned his life over to God. He joined “Truth Temple” in Brooklyn, where he served as a Deacon for over 12 years. In 2002, Dennis relocated to Rochester, New York. He became a faithful member of Cross of Christ, where he was appointed to the office of Deacon in the church. He was a God-fearing prayer warrior. Dennis was also a dedicated father, raising his children and grandchildren.
Dennis Drummond passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Highland Hospital, predeceased by: his parents; children: Matthew Sherman, Asia Smith and Cicely Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Carol Drummond. He is survived by: his loving wife, Sherry Jenkins; brother, David Drummond; sisters, Joyce Drummond and Sharon Drummond; loving sons: Kenny (Renee) Moore, Dennis Coles (Sherquan and Syeetha), Rahshard Jenkins and Sandy Smith; daughters, Denise Coles and Niarobi (Cassius) Drummond; grandchildren: Kenya Drummond, Omari Asante and Barbara T. Coles, whom he raised as his own, along with many more grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and friends.
