Obituary for Joeanna Powell
JOEANNA POWELL was born October 10, 1949 in Woodland, North Carolina to the late Clara Vinson-
Powell and William Joseph Powell. She attended school in Rich Square, North Carolina. JoeAnna left
Woodland, North Carolina while yet in her youth and moved to Newport News, Virginia. In 1973, she
relocated to Rochester, New York, making Rochester her permanent home until her passing.
After her relocation to Rochester, JoeAnna obtained employment with Rochester Psychiatric Center where she worked for several years until becoming a Cleaning Professional, owning her own business entitled Powell’s Cleaning Services. She operated the company until her health forced her to retire. She was united in marriage to Arthur Lee Caine in Newport News, Virginia in 1980. JoeAnna reading, sitting on her porch on warm summer nights, cooking her favorite meal (pinto beans), which earned her the nickname of “Miss Beans. She also loved spending quality fun time with family and friends. She also earned the title of “Lewis Street Mayor,” because she stayed on top of all the comings and goings of Lewis Street. JoeAnna departed this life November 25, 2019, leaving to cherish her memory: her special friend of 16 years, Napoleon Bowen; four sons: William (Wanda) Powell of Rochester, New York, Marcus Powell of Tampa, Florida, Frederick Powell of Webb, Virginia, and Edward Caldwell of Rochester, New York; four brothers: William (Doris) Powell Jr. of Woodland, North Carolina, Pastor Joseph (Nita) Powell of Ahoskie, North Carolina, Glenn Powell of Aulander, North Carolina, and Randolph Powell of Ahaskie, North Carolina; six sisters: Joyce (Troy) Parker of Ahaskie, North Carolina, Margaret (Robert) Parker of Gatesville, North Carolina, Maureen Powell (Sam) Smith, Doris Wiggins and Brenda Powell, all of Rochester, New York, and Betty (Jacob) Powell-Vinson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two uncles and one aunt, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, great nephews and nieces, and friends.
